There is no city in the world where so many different nationalities live together as in Amsterdam: no less than 178 nationalities across 800,000 inhabitants. All the residents together form the beating heart of the city. That image is now visible to everyone. In the heart of Amsterdam, at the corner where the water of the Amstel and the Zwanenburg wall flow into one another, there was actually a heart to shine. The artwork consists of 178 LEDs that can be controlled by the audience via a smartphone application.
A design by Saskia Hoogendoorn and Lieuwe Martijn Wijnands, from creative agency Tijdmakers. For the performance they worked together with light specialist Rivolta, Triple, Robert Overweg and Jasper Kloosterboer.
